For Lucy, this work is an expression of love. It encompasses everything that is important to her. As the founder of the Raw Food Institute of Australia, Lucy just wanted to share her story with you of how she almost completely removed all her symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) with a raw vegan diet.

When Lucy was about 35, she started to have some very strange, seemingly unrelated, health issues. She suffered shocking migraines, terrible abdominal pains, and then started to get numbness in her arm and leg. At the time, Lucy didn’t really know what to do, so off to the doctor she went… as you normally do.

Lucy was given pain relief and sent home every single time. Eventually, the abdominal pain became so severe that the doctors, being at a loss to know what was causing it, operated and removed her gallbladder. This made absolutely no difference and just left her frustrated and minus one organ!

In the end, the doctor’s opinion was it was all in her head and to go home and deal with it. You can imagine how that made her feel!

Lucy had always been fit, healthy and pretty enthusiastic about life in general. Her three children, really only babies at the time, were distressed as they watched on. Her husband’s concern grew as he watched on as they sought doctor after doctor for answers.

He told her one night he thought he wasn’t going to bring her home from hospital after a particularly bad cocktail of drugs were administered to help combat the pain.

Whilst no the best news to receive, it was almost a relief to find out Multiple Sclerosis was the cause of all her symptoms. Apparently, MS is a disease with any number of early symptoms. Lucy has spoken to so many people since who shared similar stories and were told their early symptoms were just “stress”.

Lucy’s symptoms were progressing fast and she used a cane more and more…

So, big change, they sold their 3-story house in the city and moved to the country. That was primarily to remove as much stress from her life as possible, but they made sure they bought a house that could be modified for a wheelchair when the time came.

Lucy had already decided not to try drug therapy as her past experience with pain relief drugs had only done more harm than good. As she’d been a firm believer in nutrition, and she thought her diet was pretty good, Lucy thought she’d try herbal and alternative remedies. She committed her days at that point to researching options that would heal her body and not just mask the symptoms.

Lucy learnt that, even though she was vegetarian, animal products like milk and cheese, were still not good for her body as they created an acidic environment within her system, which was not conducive for healing.

Then, her luck changed!

Lucy was introduced to a raw food diet. Her devoted and always supportive husband came on the journey with her, and together, they embarked on a 100% living, raw plant-based diet. This included removing all dairy and eggs from her diet, and just that small change, the improvement was noticeable almost immediately. She slept better, the flare ups were fewer and further apart, her pain levels dropped dramatically, and her hope came back. Lucy started to realize there might actually be a hope, and the wheelchair wasn’t an inevitable outcome.

After a year or so of this routine, Lucy’s health reached a point where she was symptom free for long periods of time. No cane required and absolutely no wheelchair in sight.

Lucy was spending time on her property digging veggie beds, helping to build fences, and getting back to living her life to the fullest again. Her weight, which had ballooned when she couldn’t exercise, started to stabilize and go down, which of course, only helped the process and seemed to accelerate her healing again.

Today, Lucy is still leading a very high raw food diet, probably 80-90% raw at any given time. Her symptoms are virtually non existent, and she loves that sense of having some control in her world, that she didn’t just have to be a victim to this awful disease.
