"Hi Its Laura from the Raw Food Institute of Australia again. Im here still with Kemi Nekvapil, and we're here talking about Raw Food and everything associated with Raw Food. Now I am particularly interested in the weekends, or workshops you do with women.
Kemi: Raw Beauty Queen is my absolute baby, my new baby in fact. Raw Beauty Queen allows women to nourish our beauty inside and out and the inside starts with the food.
Theres actually seven priniciples to Raw Beauty.
The first one is body Nourishment.
Its nourishing your mind and your body with food, but its not just about having the salad and all the proper nutritional things on your plate, Its also how are you are feeling when your eating that. If your eating your Grandmothers chocolate cake and you've eaten that chocolate cake since you were three years old and your Grandmothers love and respect for you is in that cake and you want it…enjoy the cake!
Just enjoy the cake!!
Without the belief that your bad!
Theres no good and theres no bad food, theres just food. Some of it makes you feel really great and some of it doesnt make you feel great. Thats as scientific as I get when it comes to that.
The second principle is: self love.
Because when you start to nourish your body and your thoughts you start to feel better about yourself and you start to take actions that are kinder to yourself
Principle number three is: Creative expression
I'm not sure why, but when you demonstrate self love you just start to become more creative. You become really clear on what makes you tick.
Principle number four is: Joy Creation
When your creative your very happy. and learning the art of gratitude, just enjoying moment by moment by moment.
Its not out there one day coming its actually right now.
Principle number five is: Elevating relationships and communities.
When your joyous you want to be around other people who are joyous .You want to be around other women who are up to fun things, Not with people whos biggest news for the day is their favourite celebraty put on weight or had an affair with so and so!!
Their actually up to stuff!
When your with those sort of people you start to get really clear on what your passions are because your inspired.
Its like "well if their doing that, maybe I could climb Mount Kilomanjara" or whatever it is. And those people will say to you that sounds fanstastic, how can I support you? Can I come with you, or Wow I was thinking of doing something like that. As apposed to "well you've never climbed in your life before, how are you going to do it?"
Its very different.
Then from elevating relationships and communities comes the
The sixth principle: Living your passion
Unapologetically creating a life that drives you to jump out of bed every morning and be a full expression of your passion
The final principle, number seven: Purpose and contribution.
When your living your passion and you feel aligned in your life, its just a natural human need is to make of contribution. You find that you are naturally contributing. For women especially, but its better to contribute from a place of self nourishment as apposed to a place of duty and resentment and anger. Its a very different place.
You can contribute again and again when it comes from Joy and Self Nourishment, but if its from duty we end up exhausted, we feel taken advantage of, we're overwhelmed, we're tired, we're stressed out. It says that we need to benumber one on our to do list.
I have two children and a husband and no one benefits If Im frazzled and tired and exhausted. No one benefits at all.
Its really important that I take the time out for myself. I coach women in this area and I run programs and I run retreats to teach women these principles.
Im just about to run my first retreat in Bali, which I'm very excited about and the women are very excited about. My aim, my goal is to have a Raw Beauty Retreat or weekend in a different country every year. Thats my plan.
Laura: It seems like your breaking down the rules, getting rid of the expectations and helping women rebuild their lives in all senses of the word.
Kemi: Exactly and letting go of what we're told we should be. Giving women permission to take time out to work out that this is my life. We have a limited time on the planet, what do you want to do? let take away the excuses "But Ive got kids etc." People have achieved extraordinary things with kids!
People have achieved extraordinary things with chronic diseases, and illness and being tired!
Im sure Gandhi, Mandela, Mother Teresa were probably tired. But they still got on with it!!
So its our beliefs about what we do that holds us back.
I think our beauty comes when life expands, when we actually get to the point of saying yes to more things, instead of saying "I dont do that, thats not me, I cant do that."
Instead start saying, "OK, I am so scared right now, but Im just going to say yes"
Im a big fan of Dr. Brenee Brown. I was very blessed to see her speak a few weeks ago. I love her idea that you have to be in the arena of life. I highly recommend her book , Daring Greatly.
You have to get in the arena and get the mud and the muck on your face. and don't be the critic. Get in there and start getting messy and fail and get up and fail and get up. So at the end of your life you can say, "You know what I gave it a really good shot", not "I survived it, or I lost 5 kilos, or I went and only had two wrinkles or I didn't have any cellulite left". Who cares!
Laura: Kemi Im sure there are people in our community who are going, "how do I find out more about you"
Kemi: The way to contact me for Raw Beauty Queen is rawbeautyqueen.com. Thats for the womens programs and coaching and for Kemis Raw Kitchen, its kemisrawkitchen. You can send me an email through either of those. The journey can begin from there.
Kemi also supports an amazing charity, The Hunger Project. This is so in keeping with the Wonderful Women process we just had to share what Kemi has to say about it…
The Hunger Project, Australia, an organization committed to ending world hunger, in a sustainable and empowering way which has struck a deep chord with me.
As an african women that won the birth lottery, I have always wanted to contribute to Africa in a way that I felt was not patronizing.
I am extremely excited that I have been chosen as one of 20 female business owners in Australia to go to Uganda with The Hunger Project in November with their a Leadership and Immersion Project.
I will be going to see first-hand the work of the Hunger Project, and to do what I can to assist with that work. For myself, I am going so that I can learn from empowered, African women, and bring what I learn back to my family, my work and my community.
The Hunger Project believes in breaking the cycle of poverty and aid-dependence by empowering local communities to achieve sustainable self-reliance and unleashing the leadership potential of all women.
It is a global, not-for-profit, strategic organisation committed to the sustainable end of world hunger and works in 12 countries in Africa, South Asia and Latin America.
THP refuses to provide food aid and instead focuses on a 'pro-women' approach and believes that providing education and opportunities to women is part of the solution to poverty.”
