We all the love the expression “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade” and some of us seem to do this better than others.
A few years ago I had the privilege of meeting a young woman called Jess Ainscough, also known as The Wellness Warrior. Some friends bought her in to my raw/vegan cafe as they thought I would enjoy meeting her and hearing her story. Having spent an intense time healing my own body with MS I was certainly interested in what she had to say.
Jess was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called apithelioid sarcoma when she was just 22 years old and the only solution according to the doctors was amputation of her left arm. Courageously Jess declined this option and set about finding a solution to this life threatening cancer. What she came up with was completely aligned with my philosophy around healing.
She discovered the healing power of food, the healing power of meditation and self nurturing and she committed to a two year intense healing process using the world recognized Gerson therapy with outstanding results.
I love Jess’s direct approach to food, as quoted from her new book, Make Peace with your plate. “It’s hard to feel inspired and happy on a diet of processed carbohydrates, decomposing flesh and chemical, artificial junk food. On the other hand, eating fresh vegetables, whole grains and fruits, as well as drinking plenty of water, will make you feel alert and energized.” Well said Jess!
I look around sometimes when I am in a shopping mall or super market and shake my head wondering how we got so off track with our diets. How on earth can we think of a package of processed flour and food additives as food?
It inspires me to see people taking charge and influencing their peers. Jess reaches out to her age group and beyond with great tips, inspiring stories and a daily motivational quote to make life lighter and essentially more fun.
Now that’s healing!
Who said the healing process has to be all serious and scary. I think joy and laughter are such an important part of our journey back to health and I know from personal experience the happier I stay the quicker my body responds to wellness.
We need more people like Jess Ainscough in the world
sharing their story and taking away the fear and heavy-ness of healing. I was scheduled to do an interview with Jess late last year, the week her beautiful mother passed away, so we decided to postpone our catch-up as Jess was once again setting an example of the importance of looking after and nurturing yourself when she took time out to honor her and her mother for a few months.
Starting her national book launch tour today, Jess started with a bang on
channel 7’s Morning show…sharing one of her favorite recipes, An Acia bowl…yum
I am really looking forward to seeing the impact Jess has as she shares her message of wellness and self love…Go get em Jess….
