About the Author
Pamela Vinten is a retired Home Economics teacher living on the Gold Coast, Australia. Having studied in Melbourne, she majored in nutrition, food science and biochemistry.
She has maintained a keen interest in nutritional trends for over 40 years and is constantly on the lookout for healthier food options.
What she discovered in her research about the astonishing ways that chocolate can actually improve your health is so incredibly amazing!
The population as a whole is struggling with obesity. You only have to look at the multi-billion dollar weight-loss industry as proof of this. The rise in Type 2 Diabetes is alarming, and although this is commonly adult onset, the scary part is that it is now becoming more prevalent amongst our kids.
There’s a strong indication that sugar-laden treats, like store-bought chocolate, is one of the main offenders. Sure, we could all become health fanatics and follow the perfect healthy diet, but hey – we’re human. There is no way we are going to stop eating chocolate – that’s just unrealistic!

The Truth About Store-Bought Chocolate
Because most store bought chocolate is roasted, processed, sweetened with sugar and has added chemicals, the nutritional value falls alarmingly short.
Refined sugar is so bad for the body that it is often referred to as “white death”. Sugar has a very high Glycemic Index rating, which means it quickly and dangerously raises our blood sugar levels when eaten. Sugar has been linked to such disorders as Syndrome X and Type 2 diabetes.
Sugar is harmful to the body as it deteriorates our immune system, draws minerals out of the body and causes dehydration. It has also been linked to premature ageing, weight gain and high blood pressure.
Refined sugar is highly addictive and that’s why you find yourself at 4 pm pacing around saying to yourself “I’m not going to eat that chocolate bar”. But you inevitably give in to temptation, feel guilty and end up hating yourself!
Processed chocolate can lead to weight gain due to the high levels of unhealthy fats, sugar and chemicals added during manufacture. Adding milk products to chocolate seems to cancel out the antioxidants found naturally in the cacao bean. Even when we know all of these, it seems totally unrealistic to expect people to stop eating chocolate.
The Secret To Raw Healthy Chocolate
The raw chocolate recipes contain no refined sugar or artificial sweeteners. The recipes only use natural sweeteners such as agave which, due to its low Glycemic Index rating, has a very gentle impact on the body with no negative consequences.
The recipes don’t use “cheap nasty ingredients” like white flour, dairy and refined sugar that the processed food industry uses. The book explains why in more depth.
The recipes are made with either cacao butter or coconut oil, both are highly beneficial to our health. Coconut oil has been described as ”the healthiest oil on earth”. The body needs this oil for healthy body functions, so it does not head straight for the hips 🙂
All these recipes are vegan friendly. Because the chocolate is not highly processed, it still retains all the natural occurring health benefits and the list is impressive. It contains amazing amounts of magnesium, chromium and iron, to name a few, and is high in anti-oxidants.
Dark chocolate contains a naturally occurring appetite suppressant. That is why it is often found in weight-loss products. In this book, Pamela talks in more depth about the health benefits of the ingredients used in her recipes.
