Couple run a marathon a day

The Morning TV show was playing in the background as I prepared my green smoothie for breakfast this morning, when all of a sudden my radar picked up on the article they were playing… 2 of my heroes Janette Murray –Wakelin and her husband Alan were being interviewed… I have followed their journey from the beginning and am so inspired by what they do…it seems timely as our theme for September is the benefits of a Raw/Plant based diet on ageing…

What an amazing couple. Have a read and see what you think….

Whilst most of us struggle to fit a little daily exercise in,  along come an inspiring couple with no less than a combined age of 130! Janette Murray-Wakelin and her husband  Alan Murray are living examples of health, vitality all with a Raw Plant Based diet. They are internationally acclaimed endurance athletes and motivational speakers. When Janette was diagnosed with very aggressive Breast Cancer at the age of 52, and with a prognosis of 6 months to live, she understandably opted for natural solutions to heal rather than chemotherapy. “Environmentally, my immune system had been compromised and to compromise it further didn’t make sense to me,” Janet said. So she embarked on a 100% raw vegan diet to  give her body all the nutrients it needed to boost her immune system and give it the best chance of healing from this crisis.

As an ultra marathon runner Janet already knew the importance of nutrition for peak performance but this took it to a new level again. “Now, I am living proof that the body is capable of healing itself.” Janet is now cancer free and with her husband by her side, she has embarked on another major journey.

Throughout the year 2013, to inspire and motivate conscious lifestyle choices, to promote kindness and compassion for all living beings and to raise environmental awareness for a sustainable future, veteran raw vegan athletes Janette Murray-Wakelin and Alan Murray are running together around Australia, approximately15,500km, 365 marathons each in 365 days.

Having been 100% raw and vegan for 10 years, Janet can be quoted as saying they are getting healthier, stronger and younger every day and she is fitter now than she was in her  20’s.

 Impressive achievement and amazing example.

Their typical days diet includes:

BREAKFAST

Green smoothie and 5 bananas

LUNCH: 20 mandarins, one melon, one pineapple and five bananas

DINNER: Either a large green salad with tomato, cucumber, zucchini and capsicum or a green smoothie

SNACKS: Any fresh fruit or freshly squeezed fruit or vegetable juice.

You can follow their journey at http://www.runningrawaroundaustralia.com/ they are accepting donations for the Gawler foundation on their site as well.
