GoVegan Deli…
I turned 54 this week and a darling friend took me out for the day.
It is a ritual we enjoy on or around our birthdays each year. We steal a wonderful day together and just play. (My wish is that everyone has a friend like that). Some times its a walk in the forest with lunch at a gorgeous little cafe. Sometimes its a beautiful day in Byron Bay.
This year it was a trip to GoVegan Deli and a picnic on Noosa River…
The day was just perfect, late spring and we were in a relaxed mood as you can imagine. It didn’t even phase us when the Noosa Farmers Market, which were supposed to be the first stop for the day, wasn’t on due to the Noosa triathlon closing all the access roads in the area!
So we decided to make an earlier stop at GoVegan Deli and buy our picnic lunch.
When we arrived, we were just delighted. The atmosphere was light and clean and so Urban! We loved the beautifully presented food and the welcoming staff.
We were greeted by our dear friend, Scott Mathias who invited us to have morning tea with him and his wonderful partner Clare. We were treated to the most beautiful selection of cake sampling’s, some of the best I’ve had, and a lovely herbal tea.
Their cakes are sensational, but the absolute winner was the carrot cake. We were warned on arrival by Clare, who was just finishing her (first) morning tea that the carrot cake was to “live” for and she was so right!
GoVegan Deli has one of the best Raw Cake chefs in the country and trust me, I have tried a lot of Raw Cakes over the years, some terrible, some amazing. But this is the real deal!
When we decided to order lunch we were so impressed with the selection, we ordered a little of everything… I was not going to decide what was best without trying the lot! There was the most amazing Fresh organic nectarines with basil cream drizzled with coconut nectar. They are divine. Haha my mouth is watering just thinking about them!
Then there was the Tomato and Carrot wraps, which sound so simple, but the taste was spectacular! And you’ve got to try the Cauliflower rice sushi as a refreshing change to cooked sushi, plus this “rice” won’t turn to sugar in your system!
I can’t wait for GoVegan Deli to open closer to home so I can dine on those delicious dishes more often. I guess the good news is, Scott is about to release his second book which will include a lot of these recipes.
But honestly folks, if you can get to Noosaville, DO!! It is well worth the trip. They have a delightful little atrium being built at the moment which will include an edible wall and limited seating. They will also be running their master classes there. They also sell the full range of Scott Mathias Raw products, including his recipe book, Lets eat Raw.
The business Scott and Clare have created is different to any I have seen so far in Australia when it comes to Raw. When you visit their website you will note this is Australia’s “first” GoVegan Deli. It is their vision to franchise GoVegan Deli’s throughout the country in a very short while. (make sure you apply now if your interested!!)
So we can expect to see them popping up in shopping malls, airports and university campus’s. We need more of this sort of food around and I for one, am incredibly grateful Scott and Clare have combined their many talents to create such a spectacular business.
